During the final for Overijssel, the top 20 presented their circular innovations to a broad audience at an innovation market. The jury evaluated the entries based on the degree of circularity, collaboration within the supply chain, scalability, and innovative character. Erwin Hoogland, the jury chairman and Deputy of the Province of Overijssel responsible for economy and innovation, explained the jury’s decision: “I am truly impressed by the quality; the companies genuinely stand behind their products, which they presented enthusiastically at the innovation market. It’s wonderful to see such significant steps being made in circularity; this is truly the way to the future.”
Spinning Jenny won in the Circular Change Maker category. The company develops high-quality, sustainable yarns for demanding applications in industries such as home, clothing, and automotive sectors. The rise of fast fashion and the exponential growth in the amount of used textiles contribute to an ever-growing waste pile. The company from Twente helps reduce this waste by using discarded textiles as valuable raw material for sustainable high quality yarns.
The companies Tala and Circular Rubber Platform also won in the categories Circular Start-Up and Circular Community, respectively. They too will advance to the national finals.
In Overijssel, many entrepreneurs are working on a wide range of circular innovations. To highlight these ideas and initiatives and inspire each other, VNO-NCW Midden, together with partners from Overijssel such as Regio Zwolle, PreZero, Natuur en Milieu Overijssel, Twente Board, Regio Stedendriehoek, the Province of Overijssel, and Rabobank, organises the Overijssel Circular Innovation Top 20. All submitted innovations can be found on overijsselsecirculaireinnovatietop20.nl.
