Job description

Optimization Emissions

Optimize the control of emissions for a biomass fired plant by executing tests and measurements on-site.

Your tasks:

  • Familiarize yourself with the design of the combustion system of a biomass fired plant and study theoretical backgrounds;
  • Study the performance of new installed analysing equipment and evaluate presented data;
  • Setup a test program for optimizing the settings for the emission reduction system and execute this program in our existing power plant;
  • Advise optimal operating conditions for emission control.

Design tool for an expansion systems in a Biomass plant

Develop a tool to design an optimal expansion system for a heating circuit which receives heat from a Biomass plant.

Your tasks:

  • Familiarize yourself with all components and main design method of a Biomass Plant;
  • Study and evaluate methods to compensate volume variation in heated water systems;
  • Develop a design tool for expansion systems in close co-operation with HoSt Process engineers;
  • Optimize this first version with input from future users;
  • Document the tool with a user manual and background information.

Optimizing biomass plant

Optimize combustion when adding bio based waste streams to the fuel in a biomass fired plant by executing tests and measurements on-site.

Your tasks:

  • Familiarize yourself with the design of the combustion system of a biomass fired plant and study theoretical backgrounds;
  • Familiarize yourself with available analyzing equipment and instrumentation to collect process data;
  • Setup a program for executing tests with new fuels that will be mixed with regular fuel;
  • Process and analyze collected data including definition of reference situation;
  • Advise limitations and optimal operating conditions for tested fuels.

Development of a Plant Monitor in a Biomass Plant

Develop an online plant monitor showing most relevant KPI’s based on measured, calculated and additional data in a Biomass Plant.

Your tasks:

  • Familiarize yourself with all components of a Biomass Plant;
  • Optimize the interface to make measured data available for calculation and analysis (live data, trended data, saved data, etc.);
  • Implement the first version of an online Plant Monitor showing calculated KPI's, limits and actual data in trends;
  • Optimize this first version with input from future users;
  • Advise implementation plan for a fully functional Plant Monitor.

Re-use of disposed water

Explore and suggest re-use possibilities for water streams disposed from a water treatment plant.

Your tasks:

  • Familiarize yourself with available solutions for water treatment for delivery of suppletion water to a power plant;
  • Study and evaluate costs and water consumption for these solutions;
  • Study possible re-use of water treatment waste water streams in close cooperation with our HoSt Process Engineers;
  • Develop a tool for selection of the optimal water treatment method for specific applications;
  • Document the tool with a user manual and background information.

Gasification market study and applications in Europe

Gasification is a key technology for the development of advanced sustainable fuels and materials, such as Methanol, methane, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), plastics or Hydrogen. Where the first generation gasification systems were mainly used to produce heat and power by incineration syngas in gas engines, the second generation gasifiers which are now being developed will produce clean syngas, the building block for the chemical industry. This technology will become increasingly important during the following years in Europe as the demand for synthetic fuels and materials will increase, in line with the needs for the sustainable energy transition. HoSt group has experience with gasification technologies and is currently developing their second generation gasification systems which can provide an economically competitive solution for the middle-scale capacity (up to 20 MWth). Therefore, HoSt would like to draft a go to market strategy for the upcoming years for this specific technology. You will be working in our project development team where you will get a better understanding of the (European) gasification market and how HoSt can develop the most interesting business case scenarios.

Your tasks:

  • Develop a business case tool in Excel for gasification projects;
  • Techno-economic evaluation of business case scenarios for HoSt gasification products;
  • Perform a market study on the status of gasification in Europe;
  • Write a market strategy for the most interesting business case scenarios.

Job requirements

  • BSc / MSc in Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Sustainable Energy;
  • Interested in sustainable energy technology;
  • Plan-minded and independent worker.

Offer

  • Working at the technology forefront of the energy transition;
  • Groundbreaking tech company in the field of biofuels, carbon capture and thermal conversion;
  • Minimum wage based on 40 hours per week for interns with an EU working license / Monthly fixed fee of € 400 based on 40 hours per week for students without an EU working license. Please note: it depends on your type of internship at HoSt which fee you receive;
  • Lots of responsibility and room for own initiatives;
  • Professional support, guidance and insights;
  • Interesting international environment only a 5-minute walk from the ‘Kennispark’ train station in Enschede;
  • Nice and sustainable welcome gift;
  • A dynamic, energetic, passionate young team;
  • Flexibility in working from home / office.
