BATTERY TECHNOLOGY IN TWENTE
Twente powers innovation with BatteryTech
Raw materials are getting scarcer, and the need for energy storage is louder than ever. Europe wants to rely less on Asian resources, and that’s why Twente is going all in on developing the next generation of batteries. With BatteryTech, we’re working towards a more sustainable future.
Twente’s battery expertise covers the entire battery chain – from individual cells to full battery packs. We're looking at local energy needs and sources, and finding smart ways to connect the two. We're also tackling the challenge of storing energy across day and night cycles, exploring alternative raw materials, and coming up with new recycling methods.

BatteryTech Twente & Battery Competence Cluster
With the energy transition and material shortages in mind, Twente is stepping up its battery game. We're joining forces with 60 companies in the Battery Competence Cluster. Backed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and a budget of nearly €300 million, the goal is clear: battery autonomy. The University of Twente is leading the charge.
