Technasium education combines regular subjects with projects that tie in with real social and business assignments. This teaches students at a young age to think critically, collaborate, and design solutions for concrete issues in their environment. In Hengelo, around 100 students participated in the course, while Assink College offers multiple levels.

Companies and schools join forces for talented students in Twente
Projects range from urban design to landscape development. Students from the Bataafs Lyceum, for example, contributed to the redesign of the Lange Wemen in Hengelo, where they helped decide on green layout, accessibility, and materials. At Landgoed de Zwanenhof in Zenderen, students worked on the design of a garden suitable for various target groups, including advice on plant selection and layout.

An important part of the technasium is collaboration with local businesses and organizations. For the projects in Hengelo and Zenderen, the schools teamed up with contractor Dura Vermeer and road builder TWW. This gives students technical knowledge and insight in the field and the regional job market.

Technasium education provides students who are ready for further studies in technology, science, and design, and strengthens the influx of talent for companies and research institutions in Twente. The municipality of Hengelo is also supporting the Bataafs Lyceum with a new school in 2028, which will allow the technasium program to grow further.

With this development, Twente is responding to the need for technically skilled talent and investing in a sustainable future in which technology, innovation, and green solutions go hand in hand. For young talents, this means a solid foundation for contributing to technological and social projects in their own region.
