System Engineer Fire Control

As a System Engineer, you work in an international multidisciplinary team on the specification, design, development and validation of a fire control system. This is a large program, spanning multiple agile teams performing systems engineering and software development over a multi-year period.

In one of these teams, you are responsible for a wide array of systems engineering activities, amongst others:

• Design the architecture of the fire control (sub)system;
• Manage the requirements of the fire control (sub)systems;
• Define the functional behavior of the fire control (sub)system;
• Define interfaces between the Thales fire control (sub)system and/or 3rd party subsystems;
• Manage technical issues of subcontracts during the development of the Mission Solution;
• Demonstrate the solution to the customer.

When you join our group you will have a varied working week. One moment you are participating in design decisions to engineer the best solution for a particular problem, the other you are working with 3rd parties to integrate a complex subsystem. You frequently meet with your team to learn from each other and to discuss progress.

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or similar field;
• Minimum 3 years of experience in system engineering;
• T-shaped professional, with a broad interest in technology and his own particular contributions;
• Good communication skills and able to work in multidisciplinary, scaled agile teams;
• High level of creativity, initiative, pragmatism and persuasiveness;
• Affinity with agile development; preferably some form of scaled agile;
• Understanding of software development processes;
• Fluency in spoken and written English; German is a plus;
• Flexibility with respect to travelling abroad and being part of an international environment;

The Above Water Warfare System (AWWS) protects ships and other units from above-water threats, which are becoming faster, smarter and more complex. To this end, it uses Thales' next-generation dual-band radar suite, which integrates an Active Phased-Array Radar (APAR) in the X-band with a Sea Master 400 radar in the S-band to track Anti-ship missiles go three to five times faster than sound with increasingly complex behavior. When several of these threats come up against them simultaneously, it becomes increasingly difficult for human operators to take efficient and effective protection measures. The AWWS provides the necessary information to make the right decision within seconds. With a combination of a new generation of sensors and intelligent Fire-Control system, it continuously assesses which methods are best suited to tackle the detected threat. A Fire-Control system combines the radar and the intelligent algorithm which is designed to assist a ranged weapon system in targeting, tracking and hitting its target.
