Target is to investigate a.o. the following research questions

  • Where is this technique already applied and what is the experience with it?
  • Do we see synergy within our company with other development projects and applications?
  • What are potential pitfalls when applying this technique to the intended application?
  • Can we use the technology for inspection of other assets as well?
  • What is the most beneficial concept for the intended application?

Bedrijfsprofiel ROSEN Group

The worldwide operating company ROSEN inspects several assets using self-developed techniques and devices. To organize this, a huge R&D center is present with offices in several worldwide locations, amongst others in Enschede. ROSEN is interested to verify how the latest techniques can be used in its technology portfolio. Currently there is interest in the possibilities of using shape metal alloys (SMAs) for strain gauge measurements.  


Currently it is checked whether strain measurements can be used as an indirect measurement technique for an assets surface geometry. Current strain  measurement techniques have limitations, e.g. a high level of fatigue sensitivity. A new technique for strain gauge sensors is based on SMAs. Inherently to being new, it is currently unknown on the one hand what are the pros/cons of this technique for this specific application (considering production, environmental sensitiveness, costs) and on the other hand also to what extend this technique may be used for other applications within ROSEN’s technology portfolio.
